Wolverines Tamed by Lions in Sweep

Middletown Pa. – The Penn State Harrisburg softball team was eager to get back to their winning ways after losing their double header match up with the #2 team in the country, Salisbury University on Sunday March 30th.  The Seagulls were an extremely tough matchup, but the Wesley Wolverines were not going to be any sort of pushover game.

Starting the first game off strong, the Lions used a four run second inning to set the tone for the rest of the game.  Gabrielle Wolfe (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) was strong from the mound and the plate as she helped lead the Lions to a game one victory.  Wolfe pitched five innings allowing just one run as well as going 2-4 with a double from the plate.

Harrisburg thought the first game was in the bag, but Wesley refused to allow the Lions an easy win.  The Wolverines surged in the final two innings scoring five runs to tie the game at 6-6 going into the bottom of sixth.  Jackie Furch (Hallstead, Pa. / Blue Ridge) got on base, setting up Erika Love (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) who drilled one to left field for a walk off single to win the early game.

Wesley took the early lead in the nightcap starting the game off by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  The Lions struggled to get on the scoreboard and were shut down over the first four innings of play.  Thankfully Rieley Loch (Madison Township, Pa. / North Pocono), Love, and Furch all hit for RBI's in the fifth that helped the Lions take a 4-2 lead going into the sixth inning.

Penn State Harrisburg added two more runs in the sixth and were able to hold off the Wolverines in the final inning to earn the sweep on the day with a 7-6 win in game one and 6-3 win in game two.

On top of going 2-0 on the day, the Lions also got to celebrate two home runs,   Kayla Seyfert (Lebanon Pa. / Cedar Crest) hit a three run bomb and Loch had a solo shot.  The Lions face off against local rival York College at home Wednesday April 1st for a 3:00 pm start.
