Lions Face #2 Team in Nation

Middletown Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's softball dropped its double header Sunday March 29th when they hosted the #2 ranked team in the country Salisbury University 9-0 and 14-1.

After splitting with Franklin and Marshall on Friday which ended the Lions nine game win streak and F&M's seven game win streak, the Lions were tested at a different level when Salisbury came to town.

In game one both teams pitched a scoreless first, but it didn't take long for the Seagulls to get hot from the plate. After scoring seven runs in the second, Salisbury never looked back. Scoring one run in the fourth and one run in the fifth, Salisbury claimed the 9-0 win. Penn State Harrisburg's Jackie Furch (Hallstead, Pa. / Blue Ridge) held her own against the highly ranked team going 2-2 with a double.

In game two, the Lions were able to hold off the Seagulls for the first two innings.  Unfortunately in the third the Salisbury flexed their muscles scoring three runs in the top of the inning. But the Lions refused to go away scoring a run in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1.  Through the next two innings Harrisburg was able to hold Salisbury's offense in check only allowing a single run in the top of the fourth.

The Blue and White were able to push the game farther than most of the members of the CAC had against Salisbury but their might finally came through when they put up 10 runs in the final two innings to take the game 14-1.

The Lions will looked to bounce back when they play a double header against Wesley College on Monday March 30th starting at 3pm.
