Lions Finish Strong at NCAA Mid East Region Championships

As the Penn State Harrisburg's Cross Country season comes to a close, the Blue and White men and women's teams fought to the finish in their last meet of the season at Big Springs High School in Newville, Pa. Saturday, Nov. 15th in the NCAA Mid East Regional Championship.  Ten Lions competed at the 2014 NCAA Mid East Region Championships. The men's team posted 1158 points finishing 40th of 47 teams, while three ladies ran as individuals. 

Wrapping up the season with great finishes, the Lady Lions top finisher freshman Laura Del Mar Herandez Perez (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico / Academia Discipulos de Cristo) finished the 6k race in 28:37, good enough for 316th place.  Sophomore Rachel Sechrist (Allentown Pa. / Salisbury) finished second for the women, running a time of 28:55 for a 328th place finish. Rounding out the women's side was sophomore Nicole Lindie, finishing 358th with a time of 33:34. 
On the men' side, Sophomore Nicholas Sturm (Hamburg Pa. / Hamburg) was the Lions top finisher completeing the 8k race in 28:38.9, good enough to earn him a 198th place finish. Following Sturm was sophomore Joey Phifer(Union NJ. / Union) who's time of 29:29 earned him a 233rd place finish, and freshman Takodah Thompson (Hershey Pa. / Hershey) finishing in 237th thanks to a time of 29:38.
Freshman Lee Lerew (York, Pa. / York) finishes in 262nd place with a time of 30:06 followed by junior Edgar Makimoto(Middleburg, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) earning 268th place with a time of 30:23. Freshman Kevin Meija Saba (Gaithersburg, Md) ran a time of 30:54 finishing in 282th place. Junior Thomas Chaney rounded out the Lions' runners in the 299th spot with a time of 31:39. 
This event concluded the 2014 cross country season for the Lions.   Although many of the runners will continue their push forward this winter as members of the Indoor Track and Field team.
