Makimoto Shines for Harrisburg Cross Country

Penn State Harrisburg's sophomore Cross Country runner Edgar Makimoto is doing his best to get ready for the NCAA Regional Tournament this upcoming Saturday at Lehigh University.  Despite the intense week ahead, he was able to take a few minutes away from training so we could learn about his life on and off the couse.

What is your major in college?

I am a Mechanical Engineering major.

Where are you from originally?

I am originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

How do you like being away from home?

I like being in a new environment, filled with great opportunities and diversity.

Are there any struggles that come from being away from home?

Yes, I miss my family a lot. I feel distant from my family members and I barely get to communicate with some of them.

What are your favorite things to do around campus?

I like running by the Meade Heights, it's really quiet and there is great scenery there. Once in a while, I catch a glimpse of deer passing by, running in that part of campus is my favorite.

Do you have any hobbies?

Running is one of my hobbies, I have a great passion for it and enjoy doing it as often as I can, which is why I am in this sport to begin with.

Do you have any big influences in your life regarding your sport?

Steve Prefontaine, who was a great middle-distance runner, is one of my idol runners. He is known both for his great running abilities and his philosophy in running. His quotes are extremely motivational (to me) and have given me great insight on the sport.

What is your favorite part of being a part of the cross country team at Penn State Harrisburg?

I think that the involvement with the team is my favorite part. I get to help out and develop the team a lot, whether we are in season or not, I'm always working and trying to make the team better.

What is an interesting thing about you that no one else knows?

That I love food and I eat really fast, but I guess that's obvious.
