Lions Open Season at Bow-Tie Classic

Penn State Harrisburg traveled to Ursinus College to compete in their first meet of the year, The Bow-tie Classic, this past Saturday, December 5th. The team started their year off with a bang, breaking seven school records, qualifying three for the CAC Championships, and qualifying one for the ECAC Championships.

 

On the men's side, Edgar Makimoto (Middleburg, Pa. / Selinsgrove) led the Lions as he won the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:31.65. Also having great performances for the Lions were Vladhimir Theophile (Reading, PA / Cherry Hill East High School) who finished 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a 51:21, and Jared Alpaugh (Wilmington, DE / Concord High School) who finished 3rd in the long jump (6.42m). All three broke school records, Alpaugh and Theophile qualified for the CAC Championships. Also breaking school records were Cameron Yon (Patuxent River, MD / Great Mills High School) in the shot put (10.74m) and Julien Greene in the 60 meter hurdles (9.56 seconds)

 

On the women's side, Ashley Williams (Easton, PA / Easton Area High School) had a dazzling performance as she won the 60 meter hurdles with the time of 9.20 seconds. Rachale Hair (Newburg, Pa. / Big Spring) also had a good performance respectively placing 11th in the shot put (9.79m). Both of which broke school records. Williams not only qualified for the CAC Championships, but also the ECAC Indoor Championship.

 

"I am elated at the attitude that my team is developing along with some standout performances delivered at our season opener!" Head Coach Danielle Lynch said, "Seven school records and 3 CAC qualifiers as well as one ECAC qualifier is more than I could ask for. I am proud of the direction that my team is heading and look forward to January and our return to competition."

 

The Lions will take a break for the holidays before getting back at it on January 14th and 15th when they travel to Kutztown to compete in the Golden Bear Invitational.
