Millersville, Pa.- Penn State Harrisburg men's and women's track and field teams took part in the 33rd Annual Millersville Metric at Millersville University.
The men's track and field team had a good overall team showing as they finished tenth out of twenty one teams. The men's team has continued to improve all year and the continued their strong showings in their second outdoor meet. Joey Phifer (Union, N.J. / Union) and Joiah Owhe (Westbury, N.Y. / Westbury) led the team on the day. Owhe had a strong finish in the 200 meter dash finishing 23rd of 52 runners with a time of 23.44 seconds. Phifer continued his good season finishing 6th overall in the 800 out of 38 runners with a time of 1:59.14
The women's team will look to build in only their second ever outdoor track and field meet. The team did not achieve the finish they would have liked but will continue to improve as they year progresses. The women's team did have as bright spots as Atinuke Adeshola (Houston, Tx. / The Woodlands) finished 23rd in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.73 seconds and Katlin Gould (Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff), who finished 10th in the pole vault with a height of 3.05 meters.
"Our team was able to compete, amid strong winds, a typical early outdoor track and field weather in Central P.A." said head coach Danielle Lynch "The throwers had a great day with the blustery conditions. Javelin thrower, Adam Williams (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt), qualified for the CAC championship joining teammate Barry Porter (Shamong, N.J / Seneca). On the track our relay teams improved performances from last weekend and many personal records were set. Josiah Owhe had a lifetime personal record in the long jump which also qualified him for CAC. On the ladies side pole vaulter's Katlin Gould and Jennifer Peters (Dallastown, Pa. / Dallastown Area High School) qualified for the conference championship as well. This was a work meet for us with athletes in multiple events. I am excited to see the results from our efforts today in upcoming meets."
Lynch will see the fruits to their labor this upcoming Saturday April 11th when they cross the river to compete at Messiah College in the Messiah Invitational.
