Lions Named ITA All-Academic Teams; Seven Earn ITA Scholar-Athletes Status

TEMPE, Ariz. –The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2017 All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes, announcing both Men’s and Women’s Teams as All-Academic Teams and seven players as Scholar Athletes.

Both Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams earned their place as All-Academic Teams by having a team GPA of over 3.20. In total, 237 teams earned All-Academic Team status.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must have earned a varsity letter and have a GPA of at least 3.50. In total 1,364 athletes earned Scholar-Athlete status.

From the Men’s Tennis team senior Rafael Fernandes (Valinhos, Brazil / Colegio Visconde de Porto Seguro), junior Austin Pokeopec (York, PA / Central York), sophomore Ryan McCurdy (Hummelstown, PA / Hershey), and sophomore Jonah Melnic (Middletown, PA / Lower Dauphin) earned Scholar Athlete Status

From the Women’s Tennis team sophomore Sheila Ansary, (Hummelstown, PA / Hershey), sophomore Sheiva Ansary (Hummelstown, PA / Hershey), and junior Sarah Shahriar (Hummelstown, PA / Hershey) earned Scholar Athletes status.
