Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to Goucher

Towson, Md.- Yesterday afternoon, the Penn State Harrisburg mens and women's tennis team travelled to Goucher for a non-conference match up. Unfortunately, both the men and women fell to the Gophers.

On the men's side it was a difficult day for the Nittany Lions. Harrisburg was swept in both the singles and doubles matches. Teammates Rafeal Fernades (Valinhos, Brazil / Colegio Visconde de Porto Seguro) and Harry Kapenstein (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown High School) were tied with their opponents after two sets but were unable to complete their match due to nightfall. The loss was the first of the season for the Lions.

The women also fell to Goucher but the Lions were able to get two points on the board. Lexi Owens defeated her opponent after two sets, (6-2) and (6-1). Later on in the doubles portion of the match, Owens and teammate Shawna Brandt (Jonestown, Pa. / Northern Lebanon) stood strong to defeat Goucher 8-5

The women's team will return to play on Tuesday, October 6th when they will travel to Summit (Pa). Match time is scheduled for 4 pm. The men will be back in action on Wednesday, October 7th when they host Alvernia at home. The match will begin at 3:30 pm.
