Penn State Harrisburg Winter/Spring Moments Countdown #9

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Aces & eights.  Dead man's hand?  Not for the Penn State Harrisburg men's tennis team.  The boys of the Hoverter Tennis Complex proudly present to you the number nine spot on Penn State Harrisburg's countdown of the top ten 2012-13 Winter/Spring sports moments.

The Lions left their mark on the 2013 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Tournament by racking up the individual accolades.  Penn State Harrisburg players combined to accumulate eight NEAC all-conference selections, six as singles competitors and two as doubles teams.

Junior newcomer Tyler Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) earned all-conference first-team honors, as did freshmen Ben Leibig (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) and Alex Koltun (Mount Gretna, Pa. / Cedar Crest).  Miller and senior Josh Cartmill (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) earned the moniker of the conference's top doubles team when they emerged as the number one duo and were named to the all-conference first-team as a pair.

Cartmill also picked up second-team all-conference honors as a solo player, as did junior Vincent Lepore (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset).  Leibig and Koltun joined their teammates on the second team as a doubles pair while senior Evgeny Matigullin (New Bloomfield, Pa. / Susquenita) rounded out the Lions' awesome outing by earning all-conference third-team honors.

The two-time defending NEAC tournament champions fell just short of making it a three-peat but went out on a high note by being the most represented all-conference honoree squad of any NEAC team.  The Lions finished the year 11-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Check back tomorrow when we reveal the number eight entry in our 2012-13 Winter/Spring sports moments countdown.  What's next?  Go ahead and count to 1,000.  Now do it again.
