Four Lions Earn All-Conference First-Team Honors

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg fell short of winning its third consecutive North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship when the Blue & White fell to Penn State Abington in the league's championship tournament semifinal match on Thursday, Apr. 25.  Despite the disappointing end to their season, the Lions managed to rack up plenty of individual accolades.  Four players earned all-conference first-team honors, four earned second-team status and one was named to the NEAC's all-conference third-team.

Penn State Harrisburg's highest ranked singles player to stamp his name on the NEAC's all-conference first-team was the team's number three man in junior Tyler Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg).  He was joined by the Lions' number four ranked player in freshman Ben Leibig (Lebanon, Pa. / Lebanon) and the team's sixth ranked singles man in freshman Alex Koltun (Mount Gretna, Pa. / Cedar Crest).

The Blue & White's top doubles team also picked up the conference's top accolade.  Senior Josh Cartmill (Carlisle, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and Miller earned NEAC first-team all-conference honors as a pair.

Cartmill was recognized as a singles player as well.  The Lions' top-ranked solo man was named to the league's all-conference second team, as was teammate Vincent Lepore III (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset).  The Harrisburg junior's accomplishment came in the number five slot.

Leibig and Koltun were honored again, this time as a doubles pair.  Penn State Harrisburg's number three grouping was named to the NEAC's all-conference second-team.

The final member of the Blue & White to be recognized the league was senior singles player Evgeny Matigullin (New Bloomfield, Pa. / Susquenita).  The four-year man earned third-team all-conference honors.

The Lions' season ended without another league championship but it was far from a failure.  Penn State Harrisburg finished the 2012-13 campaign 11-4 overall and 4-1 against NEAC competition in addition to the nine all-conference selections earned this past weekend.
