How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Frostburg State on the final day of the regular season at Nittany Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 24.

The physical and evenly-matched contest saw all of its scoring come in the opening 20 minutes before giving way to strong defense and solid play in the midfield in the second half and both extra sessions.

Less than three minutes into the game, Harrisburg's Aaron Cummings made a move to create just enough space to get off a pretty attempt from left of frame that was too much for Frostburg goalkeeper Luke Sweeney to handle. Cummings put his ball into the back of the net to put the Lions (14-3-4, 1-3-4 CAC) on the board in the second minute.

After struggling to get much started in the early going, the Bobcats (6-8-4, 3-2-3 CAC) struck quickly when Mo Odolla sent a ball deep into the Blue & White half of the field that was brought down by Randy Putnam before he put a shot low and across the goal line at the 20:12 mark.

The visitors controlled the ball for much of the rest of the first half but were unable to convert the go-ahead score, while the Lions suffered the same fate late in regulation despite a pair of corner kicks in the closing moments and a couple of headers that didn't find the mark.

Harrisburg got off three shots in overtime and another in the final extra session but none came on frame. The Blue & White defense did not allow a shot in the final 13 minutes, sealing the team's fourth tie of the season in the process.

Inside the Numbers

- For the 18th time this year, Penn State Harrisburg allowed one goal or less.

- The Lions finished with a 13-7 advantage in total shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.

- Harrisburg tallied six corner kicks, compared to four for FSU.

- The teams combined for five yellow cards on the day.

- For Aaron Cummings, his marker was his fourth of the season.

- Nicholas Guglielmetti made one save in net for the Blue & White.

- Frostburg goalkeeper Luke Sweeney made four stops.

With the regular season now complete, it's on to the postseason for the Lions, as they open CAC Playoff action at No. 2 seed St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon.
