Lions Capitalize On Penalty Kicks On Senior Day

How It Happened

The Penn State Harrisburg Men's Soccer team took advantage of two penalty shots to pick up the team's first CAC win over Southern Virginia on Senior Day. After the game the Blue & White celebrated seniors Eric Caldwell, Ethan Hoover, Creasy Lopez, Dustin Rohrbach, and Christian Schmoyer.

The Lions controlled the action for most of the contest, outshooting the Knights 20-2. The Lions could not find the back of the in the first half, and went to the half tied.

Harrisburg continued pushing the attack in the second half, and eventually drew a foul in the box resulting in a penalty shot in the 71st minute. Senior Ethan Hoover stepped up to take the kick, and buried it in the back of the net, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.

With the lead, the Blue & White remained aggressive looking to counter ever attack made by the Knights. In the 84th minute, Luis Velasco got free on a counter behind the Knights defense but got fouled by the Knight's goal keeper resulting in another penalty shot. Senior Dustin Rohrbach took this shot, once again converting to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.

Inside the Numbers

- The Lions controlled the game holding a 20-2 advantage in shots and 10-1 in corners

- Ethan Hoover scored his 8th goal of the season

- Dustin Rohrbach tallied his 1st goal of the season

- The Blue & White Improved to 8-0-1 at home this season

- This was Harrisburg's 12th shutout of the season improving their goals against average to 0.28
