Lions Drop Heartbreaker to Morrisville State

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer team made its highly-likely trip to the North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) postseason tournament a little more difficult on Sunday, Oct. 14.  The Lions started this busy weekend with a chance to take sole possession of first place by winning both of their games.  After a well-played game Saturday against Cazenovia ended in a 1-1 tie, the blue and white dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Morrisville State, setting up what will be must-win matchups from here on out.

The Lions started out strong again today and would dominate in every main statistical category except for the all-important goals scored.  Penn State Harrisburg had 16 shots and eight corner kicks compared to the Mustangs' nine shots and one corner kick.  Morrisville State scored two goals in the first half, both off crosses and header finishes.

The second half started off better for the Lions as Tommy Miller (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) picked a Mustang defender's pocket and took the ball straight toward the goal before placing his strike to the back of the net.  This made the game 2-1 just six minutes into the second half.

Penn State Harrisburg was working hard the entire game and attacked with numbers but just could not find the back of the net.  Unfortunately, in the 83rd minute, the Mustangs put the game out of reach with a third goal and took the momentum and the win from the hometown team.

The Penn State Harrisburg men will have to make sure they bring everything they can when they travel to first place Penn State Abington this coming Saturday, Oct. 20 in a game that will have major playoff implications.
