Lions Best Bison In a Big Way

Lions Best Bison In a Big Way

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- After dropping a squeaker to Albright just two days earlier, Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team returned to the pitch with a vengeance on Saturday, Sept. 17.  Unfortunately for a visiting Gallaudet squad, the Lions took out their frustration on the Bison and unleashed an offensive onslaught on their foes from the South.  The blue and white scored early and often, besting their opponent 7-1 in the team's 2011 home opener.

Junior midfielder Alex Belanger (Carlisle, PA/Big Spring) provided the bookend for Penn State Harrisburg's scoring, notching his first goal eight minutes into the contest and his last in the game's 60th minute.  Senior captain Brendan Garner (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and sophomore midfielder Kyle Schneider (Harrisburg, PA/Palmyra) assisted him and both players added goals of their own later in the match.

Junior foward Ernest Ntiamoah (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) was also strong offensively and recorded back-to-back goals late in the first half.  Junior forward Josh Bitner's (Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) score early in the second period effectively put the game out of reach and ended any chance of a Bison comeback.  Bitner, sophomore midfielder Justin Henderson (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and senior Josh Clinger (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) all pitched in with assists.

Gallaudet's lone goal, a Jean Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, VA/Hayfield) penalty kick in the contest's 84th minute, came with the game's outcome already a foregone conclusion.

The win improved the blue and white's overall record to 2-1 and gave the Lions a valuable victory in their first Northeastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match of the young season.
