Cape Charles, Va. – The Penn State Harrisburg men's golf team spent the Easter weekend at the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Golf Championship hosted by the Christopher Newport Captains. Tyler Shank led the Lions, finishing tied for 9th place overall and earning second team all-conference honors.
The tournament host and winner of the past three CAC golf championships, Christopher Newport, set the bar high after the first round of play. The Captains shot a 292 and put themselves 23 strokes ahead of second place Mary Washington and 42 strokes ahead of the sixth place Lions.
Despite the rough start for the Blue and White as a team, Tyler Shank shot a +8 (80) which put him in top ten contention early. Shank followed up his first round with his best round of the weekend on Saturday. Shank had an impressive +3 (75) to finish in the top five on the second day, but unfortunately the Lions did not have the same improvement. Harrisburg added an additional three strokes on Saturday with a 337-team total.
The Lions improved in the final round and completed day three finishing in fourth place for the days round. It showed the potential they had and was a great way to finish, but when adding up their other two day totals had an even 1000 score over three days of competition.
The Captains claimed their fourth straight CAC Championship winning by a margin of 54 strokes and were followed by Mary Washington (952), Marymount (969) edged York (973) for third place, followed by Wesley (989), Penn State Harrisburg (1000), and New Jersey City (1126).
Harrisburg's Chanont Premont finished second for the team behind Shank and 19th overall, followed by Keith Miller, Matt Hoare, and Miguel Rocero.
