2015-2016 Top Ten Moments: #5 Golf Finishes Third and Three Earn All-Conference Honors

The Penn State Harrisburg golf team finished third overall in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) golf championships held by Christopher Newport. Harrisburg started out strong with what became their best round of the tournament with a team score of 325, just five strokes back from second place Marymount and sixteen strokes behind the Captains that led with a score of 309 (+21).  The Lions were led by Tylar Massar who finished the first day with a 78 (+6).

The second round on Saturday would set up the stage for whether any team could compete with the tournament host.  Tyler Shank led for the Blue and White with a 82 (+10) finish, the team did not fare as well with second round team score of 344 and a fourth place starting position going into the final round. York College was just a stroke ahead of the Lions, setting up an exciting final round that had the Lions fighting for third place.  The team continued to keep level headed and showed their strength as an overall squad with the top three Lions finishing 10th-12th.  The effort was more than enough to leap over the Spartans, but they could not make up the ground on the second place Saints who finished with a +93.  In similar fashion CNU claimed the top spot with their +73 team finish for the weekend and a third straight title.

Massar led Harrisburg at 10th with a +32 finish; he was followed by Keith Miller's +34 and Shank's +35 to round out 11th and 12th place.  Also competing for Penn State Harrisburg was David Sinisi who took 18th with a +45 and Chris Spittle at 20th with his +48. The Lions had another successful season proving they can compete with the best in the CAC.  A trio of Penn State Harrisburg golfers were repeat All-CAC selections - senior Tyler Massar, sophomore Keith Miller, and junior Tyler Shank - with all three earning second-team honors. Massar claimed his second-straight second team award, Miller was on the first team in 2015, and Shank earned All-CAC honors for the third time. Shank was a first teamer in 2014 and 2015 and also Rookie of the Year in 2014.
