Harrisburg, Pa. - The Lions had one of their best matches of the season yesterday at the Messiah College Falcons Classic. Junior Jason Long (Rockhill Furnace, Pa. /Southern Huntingdon County) led the Blue & White with the team best +4 which was good enough to place him in the top 10 for the outing.
Overall, the team finished 5th out of 18 teams with 314 points and a total score of +26. After Long's top 10 finish, sophomore Matt Plummer (Mechanicsburg, Pa. /Cumberland Valley) was the next best finisher for Harrisburg with a +8. Freshmen Tyler Gentzler (Milroy, Pa. /Mifflin County) and Matt Rowe (Lebanon, Pa. /Elco) both finished in the top 40, both with a +8.
Stevenson University finished first in the tournament with a +10 followed by the Messiah College, Millersville University, and Gettysburg College respectively. Future CAC opponent York College finished 9th with a +34.
Head Coach Mike Banzhoff was very happy with his team's 5th place finish. "I'm very pleased with our play today. We beat some pretty good teams. I'm also happy that our freshmen stepped up for us. We should have some momentum going in to Conference Championship."
The Lions will host the NEAC Conference Championship this weekend beginning on Friday at Dauphin Highlands Country Club.
