Former Harrisburg Golf Coach Brad Kane Accepts Head Coaching Position at La Salle

MIDDLETOWN Pa. – Former Penn State Harrisburg Head Coach Brad Kane took the reins of an upstart Blue & White golf team just a few short years ago and transformed it into one of the best collegiate programs in the area.  Now, he'll look to continue his recent pattern of success at La Salle University.  On Feb. 14, Kane accepted the Head Coaching position at the NCAA Division I school.

"Brad has successful experience as a college coach and knowledge of the game of golf as a coach, sportswriter and administrator," said La Salle Director of Athletics Tom Brennan.  "We look forward to Brad leading our program for years to come."

In Kane, the Explorers are getting a fantastic addition to their program.

Kane led the Lions to back-to-back North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships in 2010-11 and 2011-12.  He was named the league's Coach of the Year both seasons for his efforts.  With its conference championship victories, Harrisburg earned an NCAA Division III tournament berth each of the past two years.  Kane has also coached two NEAC Players of the Year in Brad Goss (Annville, Pa. / Palmyra) and Matt Plummer (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley).

"I'm very pleased to part of the La Salle family," Kane said about his new endeavor.  "There's a great opportunity for us to get better in a hurry and I hope to take the program to places it's never been before."

Kane earned his degree in journalism from Penn State in 1995 and worked as a sportswriter for the Harrisburg Patriot-News for three years.  He also served as the NEAC golf chair and was the league's representative to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee.  He currently works as the director of the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship Trust at the Golf Association of Philadelphia.

La Salle plays as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.  The Explorers' spring season gets underway on Sunday, Mar. 24 at the Talamore Country Club.
