Long Leads Lions at Blue Jay Classic

HERSHEY, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg took part in Elizabethtown College's Blue Jay Classic at Hershey Country Club on Thursday, Oct. 4 and the Lions ended the outing with a mid-pack finish.  The blue and white shot a team score of 345 (+45), good enough for ninth place out of 16 competing schools.

The defending North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) champs were led by Jason Long (Rockhill Furnace, Pa. / Southern Huntingdon County).  The junior shot a +4 75 and earned a share of the third-place overall individual finish, his best effort of the season.
Sophomore CJ Foust (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) was also strong and just missed a top ten finish of his own.  His +7 78 was good enough for 13th place.
Junior Chris Murphy (Harrisburg, Pa. / Susquehanna Township) recorded a 59th place finish thanks to his +16 87 while teammate Tyler Gentzler finished in a tie for 66th place.  In his first outing as a member of the Lions top five, Gentzler shot a +18 89.  Freshman Matt Rowe (Lebanon, Pa. / Elco) rounded out Penn State Harrisburg's scorecard with +20 91, good enough for 69th place.
Despite missing the team's top player and reigning NEAC Player of the Year, Matt Plummer (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley), the blue and white performed admirably and outplayed some good schools including Moravian, Lebanon Valley and DeSales.

Penn State Harrisburg's next outing comes this weekend at McDaniel's Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational at the Bridges Golf Club.
