How It Happened
Penn State Harrisburg rolled to an 89-49 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Penn State Abington at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8.
The Lions (14-6, 10-1 NEAC) were led by Donyae Baylor-Carroll's game-high 20 points, while Dylan Daniels netted 15 of his own. Pedro Rodriguez's strong play continued as he scored 11 off the bench and Nate Curry was the team's fourth player to reach the double-digit scoring mark with 10 points.
Penn State Abington (8-12, 3-8 NEAC) did all it could to hang around for much of the first half, weathering early pushes by the home team and eventually drawing to within four at 26-22 with 5:02 left before halftime.
From there, however, the hometown Blue & White went on a torrid 19-2 run to close out the half that included seven points from Baylor-Carroll and six from Rodriguez, giving Penn State Harrisburg a commanding 45-24 lead heading into the break.
The visitors stood no chance in the second half, as Baylor-Carroll went on a one-man run that saw him knock down three consecutive jumpers from beyond the arc to push the advantage to 30 for the first time with 14:46 left to play.
Daniels buried back-to-back 3-pointers with little more than seven minutes remaining before a layup from Donald Friday Jr. ballooned the home team's advantage to 40 for the first time at the 6:37 mark. The starters gave way to the reserves and the Lions closed out one of their largest victories of the season with ease.
