How It Happened
Saturday afternoon's 96-52 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) loss to No. 13 Christopher Newport in the regular season finale at the Capital Union Building saw Kahlil Williams became just the fourth Penn State Harrisburg player to score 1,000 career points while donning the Blue & White for four years.
Entering Saturday's contest, Williams needed just five points to reach the impressive milestone. He finished the game with a double-double thanks to a team-high 10 points and 11 rebounds. Zegary Scott the III tallied nine points off the bench, while Chris Bing and Donyae Baylor-Carroll added six points apiece.
The Lions (13-12, 5-9 CAC) jumped out to an early advantage thanks to an 11-2 run in the opening minutes. It was during this span that Williams gathered in an offensive board and put back the miss to surpass 1,000 points for his career. After a Williams' free throw put the home team up 12-6 at the 14:34 mark, however, the Captains (22-3, 12-3 CAC) came to life and took advantage of a Blue & White shooting slump midway through the half.
CNU took the lead with 11:06 remaining in the first half and despite back-to-back jump shots from Keenan Wise and Baylor-Carroll, the visitors began to pull away thanks to a 14-0 run just before the break. The spurt enabled the Captains to take a 50-25 advantage into the break.
The second half played out similarly, with Christopher Newport maintaining and building upon its lead. The Lions showed life when Bing knocked down a pair of free throws before Williams added a layup in the opening minutes of the second half but again, one of the nation's top teams was able to put together consecutive buckets to end the Penn State Harrisburg threat and pull away for good.
Inside the Numbers
- The Lions struggled shooting from the floor (32.2 percent), while Christopher Newport was stout from the field (55.7 percent) and from 3-point range (45.2 percent).
- CNU won the rebounding battle 42-31.
- The Captains racked up 40 of their points in the paint.
- Kahlil Williams' 10-point, 11-rebound performance was good enough to move his past the 1,000-point threshold for his career.
- Zegary Scott III totaled nine points and a pair of assists off the bench.
- Chris Bing and Donyae Baylor-Carroll each added six points, while Bing also finished with five boards.
- Ibn-Haneef Nelson and Keenan Wise chipped in with four points each.
- Five CNU players reached the double-digit scoring mark, led by Marcus Carter's 17 points.

Saturday served as Penn State Harrisburg's Senior Day. Prior to the outing with CNU, Penn State Harrisburg honored its men's basketball Class of 2019, comprised of Ibn-Haneef Nelson, Patrick Mulville, Gbolahan Alliyu, Kahil Williams and Nelson Jones.
