How It Happened
A hard-fought rally late in the second fell short for Penn State Harrisburg in the team's 69-61 loss to Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Mary Washington at the Capital Union Building on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12.
Kahlil Williams scored a team-high 15 points for the Lions (9-6, 1-3 CAC) on 7-of-8 shooting, while Donyae Baylor-Carroll also reached the double-digit scoring mark with 13 of his own. Gbolahan Alliyu grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds, Chris Bing pulled in 10 boards and Zegary Scott III dished-out a game-best seven assists.
Trailing by 15 points with less than three minutes to play, the Blue & White put together a final run that started with an Alliyu jam off a Brandon Coleman pass, included a knock-down 3-ball from Baylor-Carroll and ended when Keenan Wise buried an elbow jumper from beyond the arc off a Scott feed to cut the deficit to seven with 1:39 remaining.
After Scott converted a pair of free throws to keep the home team within striking distance, the Lions got looks at four opportunities from 3-point territory in the final 40 seconds. Unfortunately for Penn State Harrisburg, none found their mark, allowing the Eagles (11-5, 3-1 CAC) to hold off the charge and escape Middletown with the conference victory.
The contest was a back-and-forth affair late into the first half. The teams traded the lead seven times in the opening 20 minutes, with the Blue & White holding the advantage as late as the 7:28 mark when Wise connected on a 3-ball off a find from Bing.
UMW closed out the half on a 15-6 run to take a 35-28 lead into the break before stretching the advantage to double-digits for the first time early in the second half. The visitors used a crucial 16-4 push to balloon their advantage to as many as 19 points with 11:35 left, forcing the Lions to play catch up the rest of the way.
Orange 4 Owen
Saturday's contest was Penn State Harrisburg's sixth-annual Orange 4 Owen Game. In conjunction with Owen's Foundation, fans in attendance were encouraged to take part in an ongoing effort to put an end to distracted driving. Harrisburg players took the Orange 4 Owen pledge to help prevent distracted driving and wore orange accents during the game in support of the cause. Inside the Numbers
- The Lions outshot UMW 42.6 percent to 36.8 percent from the field.
- The Eagles, however, shot 34.6 percent from distance, compared to just 20.8 percent for the Blue & White.
- Penn State Harrisburg also shot just 64 percent (16-of-25) from the foul line, while the visitors finished 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) from the stripe.
- The Blue & White held a 42-28 advantage on the glass.
- The Lions assisted on 17 of their 20 made field goals.
- Turnovers again hurt Penn State Harrisburg, with the Eagles scoring 22 points off 22 miscues.
- Kahlil Williams scored a team-high 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with three rebounds.
- Donyae Baylor-Carroll netted 13 points, adding four steals and a pair of rebounds.
- Gbolahan Alliyu flirted with a double-double, finishing with 15 rebounds, eight points and three blocks.
- Zegary Scott III posted a game-high seven assists, seven points and three boards. He also went 5-of-6 from the foul line.
- Chris Bing pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with four points.
- Keenan Wise hit a pair of 3-pointers in a reserve role.
- Brandon Coleman and Pedro Rodriguez each added four points off the bench.
- Da'Shawn Cook and Greg Rowson scored a game-high 17 points to lead UMW.

It's back to the road for the Lions when they travel south to take on CAC foe Frostburg State on Wednesday night, Jan. 16.
