How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg overcame an up-and-down first half to complete a 67-59 come-from-behind victory over Neumann at the Capital Union Building in the championship game of the 2018 Penn State Harrisburg Tip-Off Tournament presented by Holiday Inn East.

The Lions (2-0) were led by Brandon Coleman's game-high 16 points, Donyae Baylor-Carroll's 13 tallies and Gbholahan Allliyu's first double-double of the season. Baylor-Carroll was named the tournament's most valuable player (MVP), while Coleman earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

The Blue & White looked poised to blow the doors off in the early going when they raced out a 17-4 lead during a run that spanned the opening 6:19 and included 3-pointers from Bradley DaBella, Baylor-Carroll and Keenan Wise, as well as a monstrous breakaway dunk by Khalil Williams.

From there, the team's shooting went ice cold. Despite good looks, the rim appeared to have a lid on it as the Lions managed just three points the rest of the half. In the meantime, the Knights (2-1) did enough to take advantage of the momentum swing by clawing back into the game and eventually taking a 25-20 lead into halftime.

Neumann went up by as many as eight points after the break but Baylor-Carroll halted the visitors' run with a corner 3-ball at the 17:43 mark. Wise added a 3-pointer of his own on the team's next possession to cut the deficit to 31-28 with 16:52 left to play.

The contest hit a stalemate as the teams traded baskets over a number of possessions until Coleman entered the game and sparked Harrisburg with back-to-back buckets from 3-point land. Before the Knights could recover, Chris Bing added two consecutive baskets, Coleman converted a layup and Baylor-Carroll knocked down an elbow 3-ball off a pretty feed from Bing, putting the Lions back out in front with 8:33 remaining.

After Penn State Harrisburg extended its advantage to seven thanks to an Alliyu block and Baylor-Carroll's ensuing layup in transition, the visitors closed within five when Waheem Lowman buried a deep two with 4:20 left.

But Coleman proved too much for Neumann's defense to handle when he converted a driving layup before connecting on his third 3-pointer of the afternoon on the next possession. His efforts put Harrisburg up 60-50 with 2:04 remaining and the Blue & White defense fought off any comeback attempt by the Knights down the stretch.

Inside the Numbers

- The teams had nearly identical shooting nights, with Neumann posting a 35.7 percentage from the floor and the Lions shooting 35.2 percent from the field.

- The Blue & White finished with a 53-to-38 advantage on the glass.

- Penn State Harrisburg shot 32.1 percent from 3-point range, while the Knights shot 31.6 percent from distance.

- For the second day in a row, the Lions' bench was a tremendous boost for the team, accounting for 30 points.

- Harrisburg scored 23 second chance points.

- Brandon Coleman provided a much-needed spark in a reserve role, finishing with a game-high 16 points, including nine from beyond the arc. He was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.

- Donyae Baylor-Carroll filled the stat sheet with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one steal en route to earning tournament MVP honors.

- Gbholahan Alliyu posted his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 19 boards. He also recorded four blocks.

- Chris Bing continued his strong play off the bench, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block.

- Kahlil Williams netted seven points to go along with seven boards, a steal and a block from his position down low.

- Keenan Wise knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, while fellow guard Zegary Scott III added four points and a pair of steals.

- Waheem Lowman and Jordan Collins each netted a team-best 16 points for Neumann.

The Lions take part in tournament action for the second weekend in a row at Widener's Tip-Off For Autism Awareness. Penn State Harrisburg takes on Gwynedd Mercy in the tourney's opening round on Friday night, Nov. 16.
