Senior Spotlight: Joshua Johnson

Senior Spotlight: Joshua Johnson

Middletown, Pa.- Penn State Harrisburg senior, Joshua Johnson has excelled during his time here at PSH. Johnson has played guard for the men's basketball team since his freshman year and finished this past season as team captain.

Johnson is studying mechanical engineering and technology along with pursuing a minor in mechatronics.  His favorite athlete is Steph Curry and his favorite spots on campus are the engineering lab and the weight room. "I enjoy improving and learning more about my craft in the engineering lab.  The weight room is important to me because it's my way of relieving stress and improving myself," said Johnson.

He has played basketball since the eighth grade and was ranked as an all-conference and all-region player in high school.  His most memorable moments throughout his athletic career during college are playing against Navy and hitting five consecutive threes at St. Mary's his junior year.

Johnson believes that stress is the most important societal issue that college students are facing today.  "It is easy to get stressed due to the amount of work and time that students have to work with.  It is even harder to handle if you are a student-athlete so always give all that you have so you will not have to live with any regret," said Johnson.

Aside from sports, Johnson is a member of SACC and is also a musician at his local church back home in Virginia. He notes Bishop William L. Bonner as the most influential person in his life outside of family.  "When I was younger I went to a class called the Theology of Positive Thinking.  The principles that he taught in that class years ago are the same principles that I live by today," said Johnson.

Johnson loves attending church and seeing his family and friends on a consistent basis. He believes that it is important to build a relationship with God at some point in life.

He notes that he would not change his college experience if he had the opportunity to. "I think that everything in life that happens is set up to be for my good.  The key to success depends on my efforts and attitudes towards my situations," said Johnson.  His efforts and determination have helped him excel during his time at PSH and he looks forward to graduating this upcoming fall.
