Penn State Harrisburg Takes Down Southern Virginia

Buena Vista, Va.- Saturday January 9th, after a difficult loss to Christopher Newport on Wednesday the Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team looked to get back on track today against Southern Virginia. During the first half, both teams battled back and forth to stay on top but Harrisburg pulled away in the second half to get their fourth conference win of the year, 71-64. 

Southern Virginia started off strong in the first few minutes of play to get an early lead against Harrisburg. This lead was short lived thanks to back to back jump shots from Jazmon Harris (Baltimore, Md. / Patterson). As the first half progressed, the Knights got their biggest lead of the day, 13-7, due to two turnovers from Harrisburg. The Lions fought to regain the lead. Junior Winton Lyle (Washington D.C / The Bullis) put Harrisburg back on top with his first jumper of the day. Throughout the first half there were five lead changes among both teams. Penn State Harrisburg regained the lead thanks to a three pointer from Arick Sodini (Manalapan, N.J / St. John Vianney). Southern Virginia fought back once again to tie the game up but Austin Chimuma (Bowie, Md. / Annapolis Area) came up with three points for Harrisburg. The Lions led 34-29 going into halftime. 

Lyle opened up the second half with back to back layups, extending Harrisburg's lead to nine points. Sodini's layup in the second half gave Harrisburg their biggest lead of the day, 50-36, with 11 minutes to go. Southern Virginia brought the game within five of Harrisburg with only three minutes to go. The Lions stayed strong and played as a team to get their ninth win of the year. Overall, Harris led with 12 points, Kahlil Williams (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) was right behind with 11 points and eight rebounds. 

Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday January 13th. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
