Penn State Harrisburg Wins Opening Conference Game

Middletown, Pa.- Wednesday December 2nd, the Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball team hosted Frostburg State this evening in their first conference game of the season. The men came out strong but both teams battled back and forth throughout the game. Harrisburg proved to be the better team and defeated the Bobcats 82-81.

Penn State Harrisburg showed they were ready to play right off the bat. Harrisburg lead the Bobcats 20-7 after the first five minutes of play. Senior Arick Sodini (Manalapan, N.J / St. John Vianney) put Harrisburg on the board first with his first three pointer of the day. Junior guard Marquese Daniels (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia Electric and Technology Charter) hit two back to back buckets to put Harrisburg ahead by nine. Frostburg State did not let up and would go on tie the game up with four minutes left in the first half. Sophomore Tariq Bennett (Philadelphia, Pa. / Milton Hershey) made two buckets in a row to give Harrisburg the lead once again. At the half, Penn State Harrisburg led 42-39.

The second half was just as exciting as the first for both teams. Coming into the second half the Lions looked to increase their lead but the Bobcats did not back down. After the Lions pushed their lead to 10, 57-47, Frostburg State came back strong and tied the game at 65. With the Bobcats shooting lights out from the free throw line they took the lead 79-77. Things looked dim for the Lions before a missed dunk from Frostburg allowed the Lions a chance to get right back into the game. Penn State Harrisburg took the lead for the last time due to two free throws from Jazmon Harris (Baltimore, Md. / Patterson). The Lions went on to win 82-81. Harris led for Harrisburg with 18 points and six rebounds.

The men will travel to Mary Washington on Saturday for their second conference game of the year. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
