St. Mary’s too Much For Lions

St. Mary's City, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg men's basketball was able to hang around early against the St. Mary's (Md.) University Seahawks.  The home team proved to be too much as they ran away with the game defeating Harrisburg 85-65.

The Blue and White were able to match the intensity early against the home team.  The two teams battled point for point through the first eight minutes.  Unfortunately that was also when the Lions seemed to run out of steam for most of the night.  St. Mary's went on a 37-14 run over the final twelve minutes of the opening half to take a comfortable 50-26 lead into the halftime break.

St. Mary's continued to pour it on in the second half.  Scoring at will, the Seahawks led by as much as 41 with ten minutes left to play.  St. Mary's controlled the paint from start to finish, outscoring the visiting Lions 36-16 inside.   Harrisburg was able to muster a final push and eventually won the second half score line 39-35, but the first half blowout was too much for the Lions to overcome.

Senior co-captain Joshua Johnson (Franklin, Va. / Southampton) led all scorers with 17 points.  Sophomore forward Winton Lyle (Washington, D.C. / Bullis School) boasted a double-double scoring 15 points and adding 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss.

Penn State Harrisburg, now 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the CAC, will head home to face off against Southern Virginia University. Tip-off for the Wednesday January 8th game will be at 8pm.
