Tenth-Ranked Wesley Tops Blue & White

Tenth-Ranked Wesley Tops Blue & White

DOVER, Del. – Penn State Harrisburg had the unenviable task of traveling to Wesley to try to knock off the tenth-ranked team in the nation on Wednesday night, Feb. 19.  Despite playing the Wolverines to the wire just one month prior, the Lions struggled to get going offensively this time around, fell behind in the early going and ultimately fell to Wesley 70-40.  The defeat ended the Blue & White's playoff chances.

The Lions fell behind 6-0 before freshman Winton Lyle (Washington, D.C. / Bullis School) netted the team's first points of the game at the 16:34 mark.

Then, the wheels fell off.

Over the next ten minutes, Wesley went on a 21-0 run that put Penn State Harrisburg in a hole it just couldn't climb out of.  Heading into halftime, the Wolverines led 39-14.

The Blue & White refused to roll over and played the home team just about even in the second half.  Over a seven minute stretch, senior captain Will Doyle (Franklin, Va. / Tidewater Academy) scored 12 of Penn State Harrisburg's 14 points during that timeframe.  Unfortunately, the Lions just couldn't get enough stops defensively to cut into the deficit.

Doyle was the team's high-scorer with 14 points.  He also added four rebounds.  Lyle grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with his four tallies and freshman Marquese Daniels (Philadelphia, Pa. / Philadelphia Electric & Technology Charter) poured in 12 points in a reserve role.  Junior Joey Farthing (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) pitched in with seven points and sophomore Rayshaun Anderson-Brown (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) pulled in five boards.

Wesley outshot the Lions from the field 44.2 percent to just 20.4 percent.  The Wolverines outrebounded Penn State Harrisburg 47-32 and the home team assisted on 19 made baskets compared to just three for the Blue & White.

The loss dropped Penn State Harrisburg to 8-16 on the year and 5-10 in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play.  With the postseason no longer a possibility, the Lions season finale will take place this Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22.  The matchup against CAC foe Mary Washington is also Senior Day.  Prior to tip-off, the Blue & White will honor its two soon-to-be graduates in Doyle and fellow senior captain Kenny Stone (Philadelphia, Pa. / Scotland).
