Lions Earn Consolation Victory Behind Stone's 27; Doyle Earns All-Tournament Honors

Story by Penn State Harrisburg's Kenny Stone

FREDERICK, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg finished off its outing at Hood's Holiday Tournament by topping Bryn Athyn 80-62 in the consolation matchup.  The Lions were led by Kenny Stone's (Philadelphia, Pa. / Scotland) career-high 27 points.  Fellow senior captain Will Doyle (Franklin, Va. / Tidewater Academy) was named to the all-tournament team a day after scoring a school-record 40 points; the single highest total ever put up inside Hood's gymasium.

Less than 24 hours after their emotional double overtime defeat at the hands of Southern Vermont, Penn State Harrisburg went to battle again in the consolation game of the Hood Tournament against Bryn Athyn.

In the first half, the Lions were given everything that they could handle as Bryn Athyn made six three-pointers and forced ten turnovers, finishing the first half virtually even with the Lions only down 29-28.

But the second half was another story as Stone opened the half with eight quick points to help give the Lions a 41-33 lead.  That's as close as Bryn Athyn would get.  The Lions took their biggest lead of the game at 80-57 on a Joshua Johnson (Franklin, Va. / Southampton) three pointer with less than two minutes to go.

Stone led the Lions in scoring to go along with six rebounds but this was no one-man show. Doyle had an impressive game in his own right with 17 points and seven assists and six rebounds while Kevin Icker (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) also scored in double figures with ten points himself.

The Lions will next be in action at home on Saturday, January 4 at 3 p.m. against Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Salisbury.
