Gatchell Earns First-Team All-Conference Honors

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Penn State Harrisburg's Jordan Gatchell (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) had a career-year in 2012-13.  The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) took notice and named the senior point guard to the league's All-Conference First-Team on Tuesday, Feb. 19.  Gatchell received the fourth-highest vote total of any player in the league.

On Jan. 2, the Lions' team captain became just the fourth player in school-history to score 1,000 career points.  Three weeks later, he scored a career-high 28 points in a double-overtime thriller against Penn State Abington.  Gatchell started all 26 games this season and led the team in points per game (12.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5).

Penn State Abington sophomore Mike Marvin made the leap from NEAC Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 to Player of the Year this season.  Penn State Berks freshman Dameon Nixon was named the conference's Rookie of the Year and Berks' Scott Yarnell was voted the league's Coach of the Year.

The Blue & White defeated Abington 79-77 in NEAC Tournament Quarterfinal action on Tuesday night, Feb. 19.  The Lions limited Marvin's production in crunch time, keeping the talented big man scoreless in the contest's final minutes while Gatchell scored four points and swiped the game-winning steal as time expired.

Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Morrisville State this weekend for the NEAC Tournament's Final Four.  The Lions face the host school and number one overall seed in a semifinal matchup this Saturday, Feb. 23.  Morrisville topped the Blue & White in last year's NEAC Championship game while Harrisburg defeated the Mustangs 70-58 in the teams' only meeting earlier this season.
