Hopefully you've picked out your costume by now because we're less than a week away from Penn State Harrisburg's first-ever "Costume Night In the CUB." On Wednesday night, Feb. 13, we're going to have some fun playing dress up, eating free pizza and cheering on our men's and women's basketball teams.
That night, we host NEAC South Division rival Penn State Berks for a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. Our men's team is fighting for a postseason berth while our women are still in the hunt for a second-consecutive division title.
Free pizza will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis compliments of the Blue & White Society. The ladies' game tips-off at 6 p.m. so be sure to get there early and grab a slice. On this night, we're going to get serious about having fun.
Students, athletes, family and friends are welcome and encouraged to dress in their favorite costume/attire in order to help us create an electric atmosphere for two of the biggest basketball games of the season. You want to come fully decked-out in a Halloween costume? Do it. You only want to wear a wig? Throw one on. Maybe you can only find pajamas and fuzzy slippers? By all means, wear them.
In addition to the free pizza being given out, your creativity won't go unnoticed as a costume contest will be held at halftime of the men's game with the best male and female costumes to be determined by crowd applause. The winners will receive a free month's rent at Nittany Village.
In addition to being granted permission to play dress up on an evening that isn't Oct. 31, we'll be providing our student section with newspapers (to read during the opposing team's player introductions, free throw attempts, etc.), pom poms and a few other surprises in hopes of incorporating some of college basketball's most famous chants and traditions into our building.
Check out the videos below to get an idea of the kind of crowd interaction we'll be looking to create on this night.
Some questions to ponder: whose costumes will reign supreme? Who will wear the blue man suit? Can anyone top Lauren Ertle when it comes to "Gangnam Style" dancing? How loud and creative can our student section get? We'll find out on Valentine's Eve.
Remember, the women tip off the doubleheader at 6 p.m. with the men's game getting underway immediately following the ladies' contest. Continue to check our athletics' web site and our Facebook page, PSHathletics, for updates about the event as the date draws near.
So there you have it - costumes, pizza, music, props, family, friends, basketball and permission to go bananas for four hours. What more could you want?
Dress appropriately. Be loud. HAVE FUN! See you all at the CUB…
