Penn State Harrisburg, Steve Jones Earn NCAA Statistical Championship

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – It's official; Penn State Harrisburg junior Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) is the Division III men's basketball "man of steal."  The NCAA announced today that the Lions' versatile guard has been named the nation's 2012 statistical champion in the steals per game category.  Jones' outstanding average of 4.19 swipes per contest was good enough to earn him the prestigious award.

The men's basketball program at Penn State Harrisburg also earned the 2012 statistical championship in steals as a team.  The Lions' 15 swipes per game average was good enough to clinch the best number in the country.  This is the first NCAA Division III statistical championship for a team in school history and caps off a historic year for the Blue and White, which included a school record 20 wins.

The ex-Cougar joins blue and white softball player Kara Boyd (Alexandria, PA/Juniata Valley) as the only student-athletes in school history to win an NCAA Division III statistical championship.
