Lions Drop First Conference Game to Berks

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Before Wednesday night's tip-off Penn State Harrisburg honored junior Kenton Alston (Harrisburg, PA/Steel High) for scoring his 1,000 career point in Saturday's contest at Keuka College. Alston is the all-time leading scorer since Penn State Harrisburg began recording statistics as a member of the NCAA. Alston is also the all-time leading rebounder and shot blocker for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State Berks spoiled the positive atmosphere at Penn State Harrisburg as they ousted the hosting Nittany Lions 98-92 in overtime. Alston's impressive 30 point 8 rebound performance was overshadowed by a determined Penn State Berks squad.

The Lions seemed to do everything right in the first half, shooting 53.3% from the floor and committing just 7 turnovers. After gaining the lead 15 second into play, the Lions never allowed Penn State Berks to get ahead and entered half time with a 47-40 advantage.

The game took a turn for the worse for the Lions who couldn't hold onto their early second half 15 point lead. In a three minute span the Lions committed seven turnovers allowing Penn State Berks five easy layups and a total of 16 points.  Penn State Berks took the lead with 2:30 left in the game. With four seconds remaining in regulation, Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) hit a pair of free throws to send the game into overtime.

Jones finished the game with 25 points and 18 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Shane Woodman (Marietta, PA/Donegal) and Nick Liddell (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) each added 11 points in Wednesday's loss.

Penn State Berks had 6 players in double figures with Tore Turner leading all scorers with 22 points. Penn State Berks improved to 3-4 and 3-1 in conference play.

The Nittany Lions will host NEAC opponent Gallaudet University on Saturday, December 11. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
