Lions' Strong First Half Effort Overshadowed

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions travelled to Lebanon Valley College to participate in the Rinso Marquette Tournament on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. On Friday, the Lions fell to host Lebanon Valley 73-95. Freshman Tyler Hall (Carlisle, PA/Cedar Cliff) paced the Lions with 17 points shooting .545 from the floor. Steve Jones (Harrisburg, PA/Harrisburg) also added 14 points and 5 rebounds in Friday's contest.

The first half was played evenly matched as neither team took a lead greater than 8. Entering the break the score was separated by just six points, 38-44, favoring the Dutchmen. The Lions were able to keep the score close early in the second half, but couldn't contain the Dutchmen after they went on a 16-5 run midway through the half.

The Lions committed just four turnovers all game but the statistic was overshadowed by an impressive shooting performance by Lebanon Valley who shot 58.8% from the floor and 57.1% from the three point line. The Dutchmen outrebounded the Lions 52-22.

The loss to Lebanon Valley sent the Lions to the consolation game against Richard Stockton College of New Jersey who lost to Delaware Valley.

The Lions tried to rebound from their Friday night loss but could not hold on to an early first half lead giving Stockton College the 68-57 decision.

Nick Liddell (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) led the Lions with a 19 point effort, shooting 5-7 from the three point line. Junior Kenton Alston (Harrisburg, PA/Steel High) added 16 points, 3 blocks, 3 steals and 3 rebounds.

Penn State Harrisburg was outrebounded 53-23 as the Osprey's grabbed an impressive 36 defensive rebounds in Saturday's game. The Lions were able keep their turnovers to just 15 and Stockton recorded 25.

In the championship game, host Lebanon Valley ousted Delaware Valley 78-73 to take the tournament crown. Awards were given out for the tournament MVP and the all-tournament team. Liddell earned all-touranament honors for the Nittany Lions.

The Lions will travel to Valley Forge Christian College on November 30, 2010 for an 8:00 PM start time.
