Penn State Harrisburg Top Ten Moments 2014-2015 #5

In the first year of Penn State Harrisburg’s track and field program the Lions where able to make some noise on both a conference and regional level.

Joey Phifer (Union, N.J / Union) made a lot of waves across the conference throughout the year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Phifer was able to finish 3rd in the CAC Indoor Championships and 4th in the CAC Outdoor Championships in his mar-key event the 800 meter run.  In both seasons, he was able to meet the qualifying times to be able to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track and Field Championships to become Penn State Harrisburg’s first track and field athlete to qualify for the events.  Although he was not able to finish in the top ten at the indoor championships, finishing 13th in the 800, Phifer was able to finish 7th in the 800 in the Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:53.00.

On the women’s side, Sophomore Katlyn Gould (Camp Hill, Pa. / Cedar Cliff) was able to place near the top in the pole vault event throughout the year.  Gould was able to finish her first year as a collegiate track athlete with a 3rd place finish at the CAC Indoor Championship and 4th at the CAC Outdoor Championship with a best jump of 3.25 Meters.

With year one in the books for the track and field team will look to improve across the board as they enter their second year of NCAA competition.
