Brubaker Delivers Walk-Off Single

Harrisburg, PA. – Penn State Harrisburg Baseball team picked up a walk-off victory over Lebanon Valley thanks to an RBI single by Josh Brubaker in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Lions used home runs from Ryan McSorley and Alex Cline to rally from an early 5-1 deficit. The Lions picked up their 27th win of the season setting a school record for wins in a season and their first ever win over Lebanon Valley.

Lebanon Valley: 10-20 Overall, 6-12 MAC 

 

How it Happened:

The Lions sputtered early, falling in a 4-0 hole entering the bottom of the third inning. Josh Brubaker would finally get the Lions offense going with a double to center field. After Bret Williams got hit by a pitch, Alex Cline would reach on an error by the Dutchmen's first baseman allowing Brubaker to score. The Dutchmen would answer back scoring one run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 5-1 advantage. Ryan McSorley would boost the Lions offense in the bottom of the fourth inning crushing a home run over the left field fence.

 

Harrisburg would then retake control of the game in the fifth inning. Williams would lead off the inning with a single to center field and Cline would draw a walk. After moving into scoring position on a pass ball, Chris Iocca would hit a single scoring Williams. After Zachary Koroneos drew a walk to load the bases, Chase Smith would battle in a long at bat, eventually drawing a walk to walk in a run and cut the deficit to one. Miguel Torres would follow with a single to right field to tie the game at five. Ryan McSorely and Scott Angstadt Jr. would both produce sacrifice flies allowing two more Lions runs to score and giving the Lions a 7-5 advantage.

 

The Dutchmen would cut the deficit back to one in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning Cline would blast a solo home run down the left field line, putting the Lions ahead 8-6.

 

Lebanon Valley would rally scoring two runs in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game at eight. The Lions would have one more answer, starting with a Ryan McSorley single to right field. He would then steal second base and advance to third on a Tyler Aug sacrifice fly. Josh Brubaker would then drive the walk-off single past the shortstop and into left field, securing the 9-8 victory.
