Lions Overpower Wolverines

Harrisburg, PA. – Penn State Harrisburg used a seven rally in the seventh inning to overpower Wesley College in CAC action. The Lions offense produced nine extra base hits from seven different players in route to the victory. Zachary Koroneos when 4-5 driving in 5 RBI's for the Lions.

How it Happened:

The Lions offense was active all game, starting in the second inning. Chase Smith would triple to lead off the inning. Miguel Torres would then hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Smith and tying the game at one. The Wolverines would answer and take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning. The Lions would answer with Alex Cline doubling and Chris Iocca reaching after being hit by a pitch. Zach Koroneos would deliver and RBI single scoring Cline and tying the game at two. Chase Smith would then single to score Iocca and give the Lions their first lead of the game.

 

In the fourth inning, Chris Iocca would reach on an error by the second basemen allowing Tyler Aug to score.  Koroneos would add to that lead when he hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Jackson Struve.

 

The Wolverines would answer with three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at five. The Lions would take the lead back in the sixth inning. Iocca singled and Koroneos doubled to put runners in scoring position for Chase Smith who hit a sacrifice fly into center field allowing Iocca to score, giving the Lions a 6-5 advantage.

 

The Wolverines kept battling and scored three runs on three hits in the top of the seventh inning, taking an 8-6 lead. The Lions had an immediate answer, starting with a Tyler Aug solo home run to left field. This seemed to spark the Lions offense with Jackson Struve following with a triple into the right center field gap. Bret Williams would then single to score Struve and tie the game at eight. After Iocca reached on a dropped fly ball by the Wolverines right fielder, Koroneos singled to score both Iocca and Williams. The hits would continue with Smith doubling, Torres tripling to each bring in a run. Casey Winters would provide a sacrifice fly scoring Torres and putting the Lions ahead 13-8. The Lions would add three insurance runs in the eighth inning and hold on for the 16-11 victory.
