Harrisburg Clinches Playoff Spot with Three Straight CAC Road Wins

Middletown Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg Baseball was already off to their best Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) season prior to the start of this weekend's double-header at St. Mary's and single game at York.  The Lions went down 7-1 in game one against St. Mary's on Saturday April 14th, but refused to quit and made a dramatic comeback to win 13-7.  The impressive come from behind win helped Penn State to gain momentum they used through the rest of the weekend as they claimed two more additional conference wins.

The Lions dominated the Seahawks in game two thanks to sound at bats combined with fielding errors from St. Mary's.  Harrisburg scored five runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back.  Penn State went through the entire line up in the fifth inning scoring a whopping ten runs.  In the end the Lions gave up a few runs late, but still cruised to a 20-9 win.

"The thing that I have liked the most from this team is their ability to come back from adversity."  Head Coach Ryan Bown continued with, "We got down 7-1 to St. Mary's and fought our way back.  That gave us a ton of confidence for the rest of the weekend."

Two wins over St. Mary's nearly clinched a playoff spot this weekend, but it took a final win over York College on Sunday April 15th for Harrisburg to guarantee their spot.  The game remained tight through the first two-thirds of the game, but the Lions strong finish in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning separated the one score lead.  The third win this weekend completed the team's first season goal of reaching the playoffs for the second time since joining the CAC.  Brett Williams had a standout performance crushing the ball for two home runs and four RBI's in the contest.

Where Penn State Harrisburg will finish in the standings is up to them.  They have five conference games left with four of them against the currently seeded top two, Christopher Newport and Salisbury.

Harrisburg travels to Dickinson on Monday April 16th and host Wesley College on Wednesday April 18th prior to the Senior Day game on Saturday April 21st with Christopher Newport at home.
