Lion's Drop Final Conference Games to Newport

Newport News, Va.- The Penn State Harrisburg baseball team closed out their 2017 CAC regular season play on Saturday April 15th against Christopher Newport. The Lion's were swept by the Captains 9-0 in game one and 7-3 in game two.

Penn State Harrisburg: (13-23, 7-11 CAC)

Christopher Newport: (25-13, 15-3 CAC)

Game One Highlights:

The Lion's were able to hold off CNU throughout the first four innings but could not find their stride throughout the matchup. In the fourth, Austin Henry singled for the Captains to put two runs on the board. The home team grabbed a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly followed by a home run and singled in the bottom of the sixth. Newport led heading into the bottom of the seventh, 6-0. The Captains added three more runs in the seventh and eighth off two singles and a fly ball to left field.

Game Two Highlights:

In the second matchup the Lion's came out strong with a homerun in the top of the first from Bret Williams. Newport responded with their own ground ball in the second followed by a single to right field to in the bottom of the third to lead 2-1. Josh Brubaker hit the Lion's second homerun of the afternoon for Harrisburg to tie the game up 2-2. Brett Williams hit the Lion's final home run of the day in the top of the eighth to tie to match up 3-3 headed into the bottom of the eighth. Christopher Newport sealed their second win of the afternoon in the bottom of the eighth with two singles and a fly ball to add three runs to the scoreboard.
