Penn State Harrisburg Dominates Southern Virginia 13-9 and 29-8

Lexington, Va.- On Saturday April 1st the Penn State Harrisburg baseball team headed south to take on Southern Virginia for a CAC double header. The Lion's cruised by the home team in game one 13-9 and dominated the second match up with an impressive final score of 29-8.

Southern Virginia: (8-22, 2-10 CAC)

Game One Highlights:

Southern Virginia came out strong in the bottom of the first inning with a walk and a double that brought home three runs to get an early 4-0 lead over the Lion's. In the top of the second Alex Cline singled as Scott Angstadt Jr. and Ethan Kell ran home to record two RBI's. Next at bat was Jackson Struve with a double to right field. Alex Cline singled to third base in the third before Harrisburg capitalized off an error by SVU's short stop to record two unearned runs. The home team pulled ahead with a 7-6 lead in the third inning with a double to center field, recording three runs. The Lion's tied the match up once again in the fourth with a single from Zachary Koroneous. Penn State Harrisburg pulled ahead in the final three innings as they scored six unanswered runs. Josh Brubaker and Koroneous each homered to record three run's for the Harrisburg before three more runs were added in the ninth from three different Lion's.

Cameron Michaud grabbed his first win of the year at pitcher, giving up only 4 hits and one run over four innings. Alex Cline led with three RBI's and close behind with two was teammate Josh Brubaker

Game Two Highlights:

Penn State Harrisburg recorded their most impressive win of the 2017 season so far with a 29-8 win in game two against Southern Virginia. Bret Williams put Harrisburg's first run of the game on the board in the first inning with a fly ball to fight field as David Klein ran home. Josh Brubaker added one more with the Lion's first of many home runs. Southern Virginia added a home run of their own in the bottom of the first with bases loaded to lead Harrisburg 4-2 after the first. In the top of the second the Lion's added three runs off three straight walks. Jackson Struve reached home plate due to a player being hit by a pitch and Koroneos singled to right field. Bret Williams homered in the top of the third with two teammates on bases followed by a home run by Koroneos who recorded two RBI's.

In the final four innings of the game, Harrisburg recorded 17 of their 29 total runs. Tyler Aug recorded his first of two home runs in the sixth followed by a double and a single from Justin O'Dell and Bret Williams. Aug hit a home run at the start of the seventh to record three RBI's followed by a walk, fielder's choice, and fly to center field by three Harrisburg players. In the ninth, Chris Iocca singled to earn an RBI followed by a ground ball to third base by Aug and a home run by TJ Mullaly. Bobby Patterson also recorded his first win of the season on the mound, pitching eight innings and giving up 8 runs and only 2 walks. Bret Williams, Josh Brubaker, Zachary Koroneous, and TJ Mullaly each recorded a home run while Tyler Aug recorded two.
