Baseball Team Unable to Put Runs on the Board in First Conference Matchup of Season

Dover, DE – Penn State Harrisburg traveled to Wesley College to take on the Wolverines on Wednesday afternoon, but runs would only come for the home team in this one, as the Wolverines shut out the Lions, 9-0.

Bottom 1 – The first of nine runs for the Wolverines came in the first frame, when Chris Seibert smacked a two-out double to center field, bringing T. Mears in from 2nd base.  1-0 Wesley

Bottom 2 – Wesley hung another run on the board in the 2nd, again with two outs.  Will Barton was able to reach 1st on a fielding error by Lions 3B Travis VanHouten.  The error allowed A. Briggs to round the bases from 1st and score.  2-0 Wesley

Bottom 3 – With two outs and a man on 3rd, Chris Bramble successfully laid down a bunt single, leading to their third run of the game.  3-0 Wesley

Bottom 5 – Following a balk with two outs that advanced runners to 2nd and 3rd, Lions pitcher Mark Artley threw a wild pitch that allowed the runner on 3rd to come home.  4-0 Wesley

Bottom 6 – The game started to get away from the Blue and White in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Wesley managed to bring four runners home, all of which were again scored with two outs in the frame.  An RBI single to right field scored the first run.  A hit batter and wild pitch followed, allowing the second run to score.  A fielding error by P Michael De Leon would score two more runs for Wesley before a ground out would end the inning.  8-0 Wesley

Bottom 8 – With no one out and a man on second, Chris Seibert hit a single to CF David Klein, who attempted to throw the runner out at home, but was unable to get the ball to the plate in time.  9-0 Wesley

-Eight of the nine runs scored by Wesley came with two outs in the inning

-Three of Wesley's nine runs were unearned

Final Score:  Penn State Harrisburg 0 Wesley 9

-The Lions fall to 3-11 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.  Wesley moves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the CAC.

Up Next:  Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Washington College on Thursday, March 9th, to take on the Shoremen.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
