Baseball Team Falls to Dickinson in Frigid Home Opener

Middletown, PA – Penn State Harrisburg's Baseball team played their first home game on Thursday in what can only be described as "less-than-ideal" baseball weather.  With temperatures in the 40's and wind gusts of over 25 mph, players and fans alike stuck it out for nine innings of competitive ball.

Top 2 – Dickinson got on the scoreboard first.  A fielding error by SS Alex Cline allowed the leadoff runner to reach 2nd base.  After a sacrifice bunt in the next at-bat pushed the runner to 3rd, Max Matilsky smacked a double to right field.  A single moved Matislky to 3rd before a sacrifice fly brought him home.  2-0 Dickinson.

Bottom 4 – This time it was the Blue and White's turn to get on the board.  Scott Angstadt Jr. opened the inning with a walk.  A Zachary Koroneos single mixed with an error allowed Angstadt Jr. to make it all the way home.  With one away and Koroneos still on 2nd, Alex Cline delivered a single that led to another fielding error and run.  Tied 2-2.

Top 7 – Dickinson regained the lead in this frame, adding three more to the runs column.  With the bases juiced and only one out, Stephen Sakowics got one past the infield for a 2 RBI single.  A wild pitch with men on 2nd and 3rd would add one more run before the Lions pitcher Robbie Thompson was able to make his opponent whiff on one for the final out.  5-2 Dickinson.

Bottom 8 – Penn State Harrisburg was able to close the gap in their half of the 8th inning.  Two walks and a single managed to load up the bases for a David Klein sacrifice fly and RBI with one out.  The following at-bat ended in another Dickinson error, which allowed Alex Cline to come home.  5-4 Dickinson.

Top 9 – The Red Devils managed to answer the push by the Lions, scoring three more runs in their final frame.  With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, a stolen base attempt led to a throwing error by C Tyler Aug, allowing the runner on 3rd to score.  A single—followed by a double—scored two more runs for Dickinson.  8-4 Dickinson.
