Penn State Harrisburg Wins Wild CAC Opener

Penn State Harrisburg opened their Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) schedule with a trip to the Marymount Saints on Thursday March 19th.  Both teams had their chances, but in the end the Lions took home their first CAC win beating the Saints by a score of 14-11.

The Blue and White jumped out early scoring five runs in the first two innings topped off by a two RBI double thanks to Cody Henry (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax).  Marymount fought back matching the Lions five runs in the bottom of the 2nd and then added three additional runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take an  8-5 advantage.

The Lions did not roll over and answered with three runs in the 4th.  Tied at 8-8 in the top of the 5th, the Lions scored six runs capped off with another big hit by Henry to take the lead 14-8. The Saints would try to find their bats again scoring a run in the bottom of the 5th and two in the bottom of the 8th; but a strong pitching game by Cody Dakin (Newport, N.C. / West Carteret) and Mark Artley (Milton, Pa. / Milton Area) was too much for the home team.  The two men combined in 6.2 innings to allow just six hits and three runs while striking out 10 batters.

Henry led the Lions going 2-4 with four RBIs. Also, with a good game was Kevin Kremer (Hershey, Pa/ Hershey) who went 3-6 including three RBIs.

The Lions will be in action again this weekend when they travel to Christopher Newport on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. and again on Sunday when they travel to Mary Washington for another start at 12 p.m.
