Penn State Harrisburg Splits With Mt. Aloysius

Myrtle Beach, Sc. - After a hot start for Penn State Harrisburg on their spring break trip, the Lions struggled the next couple of days to find a win.  After an extra inning thriller, the Blue and White got back on track taking down Mt. Aloysius 2-1 in their second game of the day and come home with a 3-4 record.

In the first game the Lions started the game off strong grabbing the lead in the 1st inning off a Kevin Kremer (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) RBI single. From there, the Mounties went on a stretch where they scored six unanswered runs, four of which came in the top of the 4th. The Lions would not go away easily scoring six runs of their own and taking a one run lead into the final inning. The six run explosion was capped off with a two run RBI single by Tom Denniston (Harrisburg, Pa. / Bishop McDevitt). Heading into the last inning, Mt. Aloysius would not roll over scoring 2 runs to go back up by one in the top of the 7th and again Harrisburg came back.   Bryan Balshy (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) was able to score on a passed ball that allowed the Lions to keep pushing to get the winning run. Although a momentary lapse of base running ended the inning for the Lions when they were thrown out at 3rd after over sliding the base. In extra innings, the Mounties took over. They went on to score four runs in the top part of the inning and were able to quiet the Blue and Whites bats. Mt. Aloysius went on to win game one, 12-8 in eight innings.

Heading into the second game, the Lions again came out strong. The Blue and White scored the first run of the game in the top of the first to make the score 1-0 off of a Brian Goodling (Carlisle, Pa / Carlisle) RBI single.  The Mounties would answer scoring one of their own in the bottom of the 2nd. After the Lions put another one on the board in the top of the 4th, off of an error from the shortstop the Lions held onto a 2-1 lead. In the Bottom of the 5th, the Mounties started to threaten again.  After a beautiful game by starter Troy Taber (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge), Harrisburg found themselves in a jam when Taber loaded the bases with no outs. The Lions called upon Sophomore right-hander Kenny Mott (Green, N.J. / Pope John) who struck out the first two batters and made the third to pop out to first to get out of the jam. Mott then led the team to the win by pitching three innings while allowing 1 hit and striking out three.

Leading the day for the Blue and White was Kremer who went 4-8 with 3 RBIs. Balshy also had a good day at the dish going 5-7 and scoring 2 of the Lion runs on the day.

The Lions will be in action next this Sunday, March 15th when they travel to St. Mary's to take on the Seahawks at noon.
