MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – When a hockey player records a hat trick, fans in attendance aren't shy about tossing their caps onto the ice. When a soccer player scores three goals in a game, the fans hold their breath in anticipation of the player's one of a kind celebration that famously ensues. What's the protocol that follows a batter hitting three home runs in one afternoon? Ask Penn State Harrisburg baseball player Travis Crammer (Cerritos, Calif. / Cerritos). Ask Penn State Harrisburg softball player Gabby Wolfe (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge).
Which brings us to the number seven selection on Penn State Harrisburg's list of the top ten Winter/Spring sports moments. On Mar. 17, Crammer launched three home runs during the Lions' doubleheader sweep over Penn State York. The junior infielder hit two long balls in the first game, a 6-5 victory, before launching another in the Lions' 16-1 win. Thanks to his incredible offensive outburst, Crammer was named the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week for the time period ending Mar. 17.
As for Wolfe, her stellar outing at the plate was paired with just as memorable a performance inside in the circle. On Apr. 24, Penn State Harrisburg's softball team swept Valley Forge Christian in doubleheader action 11-0 and 5-4. In the first contest, the sophomore pitcher hit two home runs, including her first collegiate grand slam. As if that wasn't impressive enough, the team captain pitched five innings and had a perfect game going through four innings. In the end, she allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters on her way to picking up the victory. Wolfe hit her third home run of the day in the second game and picked up another win from the rubber. In total, she pitched 12 innings and gave up just eight hits, allowed no earned runs and struck out 11 to go along with her nine RBIs.
Crammer's memorable day proved just the beginning of a strong season overall. The Lions' second baseman led the team with seven home runs and was named to the NEAC's all-conference first-team. Wolfe racked up similar accolades, leading the ladies with four home runs and earning a spot on the league's all-conference first team.
