Lion Baseball Opens Up Conference Play with Double Header Wins Over Keuka

Kueka Park, NY - The Penn State Harrisburg Men's baseball team opened up conference play by taking down Keuka College on the road twice in their afternoon double header.  Harrisburg won the first game 2-1 in a pitching battle while the Lions opened up in the second driving in a 9-1 win.

Ryan Pilgermayer (Pennsburg, Pa. / Quakertown) got the nod in game 1 and took full advantage holding the Keuka Storm to only one run.  This win is his fourth and helped him keep his unblemished record intact.  Keuka took the lead in the second scoring one, but the lions responded in their next at bat in the top of the third.  Ross Baker (Hummelstown, Pa. /Lower Dauphin) made his single count helping to score the only two runs the Lions would have in the first game.

Tom Chaney (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) came into the game for Pilgermayer in the bottom of the fifth in a difficult position with the bases loaded and only one out.  His well-controlled speed and strength muscled through the next two batters, striking them both out swinging.   Harrisburg kept the score the same all the way through to finish for an important first conference win 2-1.

Harrisburg's Rutt Brothers led the chage in game two.  Dustin Rutt (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) got his second start of the year, while his brother Branden Rutt (Ephrata, Pa. / Ephrata) caught and went 2-4 with 2 runs scored , 2 RBI's, and hitting a double.

The Lions scored in every inning except the 2nd and 4th inning, making their biggest dent in the 5th.  Branden helped his brother offensively to get a win by providing a double that scored Travis Crammer (Cerritos, Cal / Cerritos) getting the first of three runs that would be scored in the inning.

Dustin gets his first win of the season and put together an impressive full game giving up only one run and six hits.  Harrisburg stays overnight as a team before heading for another Double Header tomorrow when they face off against Cazenovia.
