Williams and Lehman Named Penn State Harrisburg Student Athletes of the Year

Middletown, Pa. - On Thursday, June 28th, Athletic Director, Rahsaan Carlton announced that Penn State Harrisburg Baseball standout sophomore outfielder Bret Williams and Women's Track & Field All-American Sarah Lehman were named the school's 2017-2018 Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year.

The Penn State Harrisburg Student-Athlete of the Year is awarded to the male and female student-athlete who has excelled above and beyond normal standards academically and athletically. In addition, the recipients of this award demonstrated strong leadership abilities. Both Bret and Sarah are exemplary students and athletes who have made significant contributions to Penn State Harrisburg athletics in their time here.

Bret Williams was an essential part of the Lion's record setting 31-win season. Williams posted a .365 batting average, blasting 66 hits including ten doubles, four triples, and a CAC leading 14 home runs. He drove in 57 RBI's, while scoring 53 runs. Williams also swiped 17 stolen bases this season.

One of Williams's best stretches came in the CAC semi-final pod. In three games against Southern Virginia and Christopher Newport, Williams went 6-13 with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI's, eight runs scored and one stolen base. His success that weekend led to being named CAC Player of the Week and helped the Lions advance to the CAC Championship game.

Williams earned First Team All-CAC Honors for his efforts this season. He was also was named to the ABCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region First Team and to the All-ECAC First Team.

Head Baseball Coach Ryan Bown said about Williams, "Bret had a great year! He was a big part of our team's success. We are looking forward to the next two years and seeing how he continues to develop and see if he can reach bigger goals."

Williams also succeed in the class room holding a GPA of 3.22.

Sarah Lehman had a tremendous freshman campaign for the Lion's Indoor and Outdoor Women's Track & Field teams. During the Indoor season, Lehman set the CAC Conference record in the Triple Jump traveling 11.48 meters. Lehman would capture the CAC Indoor Championship in the event, and would also take second in the Long Jump. Lehman would close her Indoor campaign by capturing the ECAC Championship in the Triple Jump.

Lehman built upon those success in her Outdoor season. Lehman would capture the CAC Outdoor Championship in the Triple Jump and was the runner up in the Long Jump. Lehman would also capture the ECAC Championship in the Triple Jump. Lehman's marks in both the Triple Jump (12.18 Meters) and Long Jump (5.72 Meters) qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Lehman would take fifth in the Triple Jump traveling 11.95 meters earning her All-American Status. At the NCAA Championships, Lehman was named the USTFCCCA Mid-East Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Head Women's Track & Field Coach Danielle Lynch said about Lehman, "We are thrilled that Sarah's efforts in the classroom and in the field of play have been recognized by the entire Penn State Harrisburg Athletic Department. Sarah's focus and drive show the true definitions of excellence. We are so proud!"

Lehman was also strong in the class room earning a GPA of 3.62 which earned her a spot on the CAC All-Academic Team.
