Bing Finds Fresh Start

Sophomore Chris Bing, a mid-year transfer from East Stroudsburg University, has already made a tremendous impact as a forward on the Penn State Harrisburg Men’s Basketball team.

Within his first 2 months on the team, he has already scored a total of 180 points within 15 games.

We asked Chris what is was like to not only transfer schools, but teams in the middle of the year. He responded with, “It was a tough transition. Trying to just like meet new people and learn a new offense. But it was smoother because I went to high school with Kahlil [Williams] and Gbolahan [Alliyu], and they just made it a lot easier with everybody helping me out and getting along with everybody well.”

After only having practiced with the Penn State Harrisburg Men’s Basketball team several times, Chris played his first game at Albright College at the end of December. He played a total of 21 minutes and added 12 points to the scoreboard.

Chris averages about 21.8 minutes of playing time, and scores about 12.3 points per game.

Even though Chris has only been here for two months, he says that “being a part of the team and practicing all of the plays has become second nature at this point.” While he’s here he hopes to be an All-Conference player and make the playoffs at least one time before he graduates. Bing says, “If its not this year, then next year we can go out and make the playoffs.”

Chris made the transfer to Penn State Harrisburg not only for basketball and to be reunited with old friends, but for the better of his education as well. Being a communications major, Chris plans to use his Penn State degree to design websites.

Winning their last game against Marymount 72-54, Bing has proven to play an important role in Coach Donald Friday’s lineup after scoring his 18 points. With the season coming to an end, Chris and the other Nittany Lions can go nowhere but up from here.
